This portrait honors my father-in-law, who passed away at 59 before I had the chance to meet him.
Through painting him, I found a way to connect with his story—a smart and courageous man
who journeyed from Cuba to the U.S. For my husband, this piece holds deep meaning,
bringing a sense of presence and remembrance, as if his father is watching over us.
